Cleaning Convection Furnaces with Dry Ice Pellets

PolarBlast has been servicing the industry along the Gulf Coast for more than ten years with our CO2 blast cleaning services. We have designed our equipment to clean quickly to minimize down time. CO2 blasting utilizes compressed air to propel dry ice pellets much like a sandblaster uses air to

propel sand. We use dry ice pellets in place of sand or soda because it is completely non-abrasive, and after cleaning the pellets will sublimate, pass

from a solid to a gas. Therefore, there is no cleaning media residue requiring containment or disposal. This process is not designed to replace sand or water blasting altogether, but is ideal when sand or water blasting is detrimental to the surface being cleaned, its surroundings, or is an expensive disposal concern.

For more than twenty-three years, PolarBlast has been the solution for cleaning catalyst screens quickly and without residue media. We have developed nozzles and procedures to minimize plant down time while safely providing thorough cleaning services. Now we are devoting the same energy to solving the cleaning needs for the convective sections of furnaces and boilers. Until now, a plant has had to remove one end of the furnace to clean the tubes and fins. Since they are so time expensive to open, they are left in operation as long as possible. This requires more fuel to get the same production, and consequently raising emissions.

PolarBlast, with our customers, has now developed a procedure to quickly clean furnace tubes without the time expensive mechanical work of removing the end cover and piping, and without damaging the refractory lining. PolarBlast can clean the tubes in minimal time on a yearly basis to help you maintain maximum furnace heating efficiency, and minimize natural gas consumption and emissions.

Our customers have said they have seen a 6% increase in efficiency, greater than 100° drop in stack temperature, and higher steam temperatures. This has enabled them to reach their goals of 2% emissions reduction for the year.
